Daily Devotional – God’s Single Plan

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional scripture today is Proverbs 19: 16-23. God has had a singular plan from the very beginning. Everything that God has done has been to have communion and relationship with us, His creation.

“Whoever keeps the commandment keeps his life;
    he who despises his ways will die.
17 Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord,
    and he will repay him for his deed.
18 Discipline your son, for there is hope;
    do not set your heart on putting him to death.
19 A man of great wrath will pay the penalty,
    for if you deliver him, you will only have to do it again.
20 Listen to advice and accept instruction,
    that you may gain wisdom in the future.

21 Many are the plans in the mind of a man,
    but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.
22 What is desired in a man is steadfast love,
    and a poor man is better than a liar.
23 The fear of the Lord leads to life,
    and whoever has it rests satisfied;
    he will not be visited by harm.”

Many times I have a plan B or even a plan C in place. Just in case my initial plans and desired outcome is not what I see. I have learned that a back plan is needed to make up for the things that I didn’t think about. Due to my human frailty and brokenness, I often underestimate or miss key points in my plan.

God sees it all and is in it all. From outside of our timeline, God watches overall. Because God sees all, His singular plan has taken every coincidence and deviation into account. When something happens, it doesn’t take Him by surprise. His plan has been set up knowing what has taken us by surprise.

Though we make plans and work hard towards that desired outcome, God often has a way of directing us beyond our plans. I have seen so often in my life that God is working all things together, placing me in situations that I never thought I would find myself in. In fact, on many occasions, I have cried out, why? No matter the situation that God has directed me into, I see Him allowing His desires on my heart to be fulfilled, for His glory!

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

I thank you for seeing it all. Thank you that I can come to you in prayer and rest in Your BIG picture. I can rest because I trust You and I know that You are at work all the time. You are not working to harm or bring pain to my heart and mind, rather You are drawing me closer to You for Your singular purpose and plan!

In Jesus name
Amen
