Daily Devotional – God’s Promises for 2023 #20

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from James 4:4-10. As our enemy looks toward us he sees the gigantic spirit of God standing behind us. While you may wonder why he is shaking in his boots, it’s because of who has our back.

“You adulterous people,[a] don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. Or do you think Scripture says without reason that he jealously longs for the spirit he has caused to dwell in us[b]? But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says:

“God opposes the proud
but shows favor to the humble.”[c]

Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. 10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.”

God promises to have our back!

I think that it is great how James reminds us about God’s wonderful love. Our God and Father craves and desires to be close to us in every situation. He is jealous of the time that He gets to spend in intimacy with us.

We can not approach the presence of God and His throne with arrogance and confidence in our own achievements. We can not allow our minds to think similarly to the world. God will rebuke us should we believe that we have earned His favor and grace.

The promise from our God and Father is that He will stand up and fight on our behalf. He thrives upon our heartfelt cries for mercy and grace, coming to our aid and lifting us up. Instead of resisting the enemy, we should submit ourselves to God today.

Let’s Pray

Dear Father,

Thank you Father that You are the one who rescues and protects me. It is by Your mighty hand alone that I stand. Today I submit to You and Your plans so that You and Your Kingdom may be established over mine.

In Jesus’ Name,

Amen
