Daily Devotional – God’s Love Is Our Example to Love

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from 1 John 4:7-12. Love flows out from God. It is who He is and how He is. Our sinful nature seeks to protect itself first, but God’s nature is to love.

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.

If you know God, then you love

When I exercise, I continue to sweat profusely long after I finish my exercising. Although I am not tired or breathing deeply, and even after the shower, the sweat continues to flow. I can not stop it, and as quickly as I wipe it from my skin it appears. This sweat flows so easily and it brings with it the toxins and nutrients from within my body. God and love are the same way. Love exudes and flows from within Him. As soon as your sin quenches His love, love is flowing again.

fall scents for your home

Love is so much who God is, that you can not but be drenched in His love. If you truly meet with Him, after seeking Him, love will drip from you too. If someone took held me close after my exercising, they too would be covered completely in my sweat.

God has called us to love one another. Jesus said is John 13:35 “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” For us to have had love dripping off of us, we need to first be in God’s presence. Then in the presence of others. I pray that you can drip love onto others today, drench them in the love that you receive from God!

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, Jesus, that You have so loved us. You are love and as I come before you today, cover me in Your love that I can drip it all over all of those that I come in contact with today.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
