Daily Devotional – God Swallowed Up the Egyptians

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Exodus 14:10-14. God said to the people of Israel while they were still in Egypt that He performed the miracles and plagues for their benefit. God could have very easily moved directly to plague 10 and had Pharaoh kick the Israelites out of Egypt.

As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up, and there were the Egyptians, marching after them. They were terrified and cried out to the Lord. 11 They said to Moses, “Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us to the desert to die? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt? 12 Didn’t we say to you in Egypt, ‘Leave us alone; let us serve the Egyptians’? It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the desert!”

13 Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. 14 The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

God performed the plagues for Israels benefit

It didn’t take the Israelites long to start complaining. It is easy to point the finger in their direction, but the truth is told, I am a pretty good complainer too. The reason that they complained was simple;

  • They took their eyes off God
  • They forgot about what God had done to deliver them

God had delivered His people in a miraculous way and provided financially for the beyond every conceived. As if God had not given the Israelites enough proof of His power and abilities, God spread the Red Sea into 2 parts. He then consumed Pharaoh and the armies of Egypt leaving them defenseless.

God has demonstrated generation after generation that He is capable and trustworthy. What are you going to place in the hands of God today knowing that He will fulfill His promises?

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, God, that You are not only the promise maker but the promise keeper. You are have always delivered and protected Your children. Forgive me for my doubting and lack of faith. Strengthen me by Your Holy Spirit with faith to act.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
