Daily Devotional – God Restores That Which Sin Steals

Daily devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Genesis 4:17-26. Having meticulously considered the names of our children, my spouse and I named all our children with strong names. In the same way that alters were created to speak to the workings of God, children’s names validate the glory of God!

Cain made love to his wife, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Enoch. Cain was then building a city, and he named it after his son Enoch. 18 To Enoch was born Irad, and Irad was the father of Mehujael, and Mehujael was the father of Methushael, and Methushael was the father of Lamech.

19 Lamech married two women, one named Adah and the other Zillah. 20 Adah gave birth to Jabal; he was the father of those who live in tents and raise livestock. 21 His brother’s name was Jubal; he was the father of all who play stringed instruments and pipes. 22 Zillah also had a son, Tubal-Cain, who forged all kinds of tools out of[g] bronze and iron. Tubal-Cain’s sister was Naamah.

23 Lamech said to his wives,

“Adah and Zillah, listen to me;
wives of Lamech, hear my words.
I have killed a man for wounding me,
a young man for injuring me.
24 If Cain is avenged seven times,
    then Lamech seventy-seven times.”

25 Adam made love to his wife again, and she gave birth to a son and named him Seth,[h] saying, “God has granted me another child in place of Abel, since Cain killed him.” 26 Seth also had a son, and he named him Enosh.

At that time people began to call on[i] the name of the Lord.”

What has your sin robbed from you?

For we have all sinned and fallen short of God’s law and holiness. No matter how much we strive to be righteous and blameless, the act itself is sinful and full of pride. No matter how little or how much we sin, Jesus died and paid the same price, because He paid for everything!

Without the death and resurrection of Jesus, we would continue to play on the fringes of God’s glory. It was not the way that God intended it. Our Father and Creator desired to have us in relation and communion, daily walking with each other.

It is so easy to overlook the blessings that seem to be part of our day to day. In the same way, it is so easy to overlook the consequences and fruit of our sins. We need to confess and ask that God will restore what has been taken from us.

Let’s Pray

Dear Father,

Thank you Father that You are the Lord of all and in control of all people and all things. I look to You today as the one who can restore all that I have lost.

In Jesus’ Name,

Amen
