Daily Devotional – God Gives Wisdom

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Proverbs 2:1-11. Do you desire and thirst for wisdom? We live in a world full of knowledge and statistics, but it lacks wisdom. Wisdom includes understanding and application.

“My son, if you accept my words
and store up my commands within you,
turning your ear to wisdom
and applying your heart to understanding—
indeed, if you call out for insight
    and cry aloud for understanding,
and if you look for it as for silver
and search for it as for hidden treasure,
then you will understand the fear of the Lord
and find the knowledge of God.
For the Lord gives wisdom;
from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
He holds success in store for the upright,
he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless,
for he guards the course of the just
and protects the way of his faithful ones.

Then you will understand what is right and just
    and fair—every good path.
10 For wisdom will enter your heart,
and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul.
11 Discretion will protect you,
    and understanding will guard you.”

Wisdom is on offer from God

Wisdom is gained in 2 ways, experience, and heartache, or submission and humility before God. Personally, I have tried to be very deliberate about not gaining wisdom the hard way. I guess that this is wisdom too, but having experienced pain and sorrow, I would prefer to not have to gain wisdom through experience.

In the pursuit of wealth and financial security, many people sacrifice so much. For the temporary reward, people sacrifice their health, family, and loved ones. God asks us why we do not search for or crave wisdom as fervently as we do riches?

God has called us to seek and cry out to Him for wisdom. Wisdom will give you an understanding of what is right and wrong, and a fear for Him that will keep us humble. God’s wisdom will bring forth a discretion that will protect you and your generations to come better than any 401K!

Let’s Pray

Dear Father,

Thank you that You have offered us Your wisdom. Your wisdom provides us with protection and blessing that are beyond my comprehension. Today I set my sights on You and my greatest treasure, Your wisdom. Please bless me with it for Your glory and honor.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
