Daily Devotional – God Became Flesh

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from John 1: 1 -18. The Savior, Christ the Messiah was born. His humble head lay on the straw of the manger. The creator, God, and Lord of all came to earth, taking on flesh as the baby in the manger.

In the beginning, was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him, nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome[a] it.

There was a man sent from God whose name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light so that through him all might believe. He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.

The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

15 (John testified concerning him. He cried out, saying, “This is the one I spoke about when I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’”) 16 Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given. 17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and[b] is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.

In order for God to redeem his creation to himself, and have a people fully devoted and committed to Him, God needed to have a worthy sacrifice. Jesus, God Himself took on our form, our physical body, and limitations so that He could die on the cross. From the dawn of time, the plan was that God would take on the cost of death!

God’s plan was coming together, and God came as a helpless baby. He was so helpless, that his parents could only muster up the manger of a stable for His grand entrance to earth. It was a grand entrance, not every day that the heavenly hosts and angels break through to the physical realm.

As grand as the entrance was, Jesus would slip into oblivion and the rut of life before His most magnificent act of love.

This Christmas season, we pray that you will take heart that Jesus too was rejected and sidelined. The creator and Lord of all was rejected by His creation. Although you may feel neglected and sidelined, you are front and center in God’s plans! Jesus was part of the plan and so are you!

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, God, for Your plan! Thank you for your love that knows no bounds. No matter how we your creation treat You, or each other, You still have a plan that will overcome all the obstacles we can throw at it. Use me as You have used Jesus for Your glory!

In Jesus name
Amen
