Daily Devotional – Why Do You Fear?

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Matthew 10:26-33. We have walked back statements, or hesitated to speak what we believe to be the truth. Part of the human condition is to fear the thoughts and judgments of others.

“So do not be afraid of them, for there is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known. 27 What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs. 28 Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care.[b] 30 And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

32 “Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. 33 But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven.”

Wisdom acknowledges who is worthy of fear!

One of the frustrating parts of living life on this earth is the lack of understanding. Although humans have delved relatively deep into space and into the tiniest particles on earth, with all the knowledge gained we still know very little. While we study medicine and the human body, in general, society doesn’t know how to raise fully functional people.

While people want to debate the evolution of species as opposed to a created version, humans have not evolved at all. Humans tend to live according to the basic fight or flight mentality where they seek the approval of those around them more valuable than their own good.

Rather than fearing the creator of us and all the universe, we tend to fear the insignificant human that throws around their pride. Truth is right in front of people, and we do not need to be offended by it, after all it is not our truth. It is the truth set out by God! We ought to fear God and His power and might over words and threats of people.

Let’s Pray

Dear Father,

I have come to know that You alone hold all the power and authority throughout the universe. Forgive me for fearing those created by You over You. Give me the strength and confidence in You to stand despite all that fall around me!

In Jesus Name,

Amen
