Daily Devotional – Fear Not, It Doesn’t Help

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Luke 12:22-31. I believe that all sin can be funneled into just a few. One of the causes of our sins is our self-righteous pride. This causes us to act in our flesh and take control because we can do it!

“Then Jesus said to his disciples: “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. 23 For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. 24 Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! 25 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life[b]? 26 Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?

27 “Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 28 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you—you of little faith! 29 And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. 30 For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. 31 But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.”

Your fear doesn’t help at all.

Fear of having nothing is a very valid fear. Have you ever wondered where your next meal would come from, or how you would pay your rent. When we lost everything, my heart would stop every time I heard a truck. I was so concerned that they were coming to remove my vehicle and the anxiety this brought on had me living in very real fear.

The miracle as I look back is seeing how God provided. No matter how close it came, God provided in such amazing ways! It was doing this time that this scripture became very real to me. For the period, there was nothing that I could do myself. I was not able at that time to pull myself out from the difficulty that I placed myself and my family in.

Fearing the lack of anything or everything will not do anything to prevent it. Fearing man and the loss of belongings only created more anxiety. God has always provided as He said that He would, my worrying didn’t accelerate God’s solution and timing.

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, God, for Your continued provision and protection. I know that You are in control and are working all things together for Your glory. Help me by Your Holy Spirit to not try and control every situation, but to trust You with everything!

In Jesus Name,

Amen
