Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Micah 5: 1 -4. God foretold His people about their savior for many generations. God had offered guidance and a reminder of His love and plan through the various prophecies. God had a plan from the beginning, and now it was time to watch it unfold!
Marshal your troops now, city of troops,
for a siege is laid against us.
They will strike Israel’s ruler
on the cheek with a rod.
2 “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,
though you are small among the clans[b] of Judah,
out of you will come for me
one who will be ruler over Israel,
whose origins are from of old,
from ancient times.”
3 Therefore Israel will be abandoned
until the time when she who is in labor bears a son,
and the rest of his brothers return
to join the Israelites.
4 He will stand and shepherd his flock
in the strength of the Lord,
in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God.
And they will live securely, for then his greatness
will reach to the ends of the earth.
Micah at the prompting of the Holy Spirit spoke about the savior of Israel. Not only the savior of Israel but of the world. This savior will be born to Israel after the time of turmoil and strengthened by God to lead justly.
God had been speaking to Israel for many years, it is amazing that Jesus’ birth seemed to take everyone by surprise.
As God’s plan unfolded, He stood by and watched His miracle happen. God had excitedly anticipated this day. Jesus’ birth was God’s chance to right the wrongs and settle the score. He would soon be able to look His creation in the eye and show them His love!
Let’s Pray
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you, God, for Your plan! You had laid this out for many years so that You would redeem and save us. I trust that You are in control of the BIG picture and my little picture. You have a plan and this Christmas remind me of Your plan for me, my community, my country, and this world!
In Jesus name
Amen
