Daily Devotional – Every Tongue Confesses

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Philippians 2: 5-11. Should you take on the character of Jesus, Paul clearly outlines what the fruit of that would be. We would be servants and lay our lives down for others.

“In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:

6 Who, being in very nature[a] God,
did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
7 rather, he made himself nothing
by taking the very nature[b] of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
8 And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
by becoming obedient to death—
even death on a cross!

9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.”

Jesus did not give up His place in heaven and humble himself for His own glory. He sacrificed everything so that He could draw all men and women unto God. His sacrifice would make it possible for the intended relationship between God and His creation to exist.

How have you humbled yourself recently? What act or service did you do for another for the glory of God? Our acts of service and acknowledgment of Jesus is because of His initial love and acts towards us.

As we take on the character of servanthood and sacrificial love as Jesus did, we do not take it on for our own glorification. Jesus has been exalted to the throne of God where every knee will bend and tongue confess His lordship. What efforts will you take on today to bring yourself to speak and confess Jesus’ lordship?

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

We thank you Jesus for your sacrifice upon the cross. Thank you for Your obedience until death. Today I desire to confess You as Lord and bow my knee to You. Be glorified today in all that I do so that Your name is exalted by those around me.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
