Daily Devotional – It Was Done, It Is Done, Forever!

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Hebrews 10: 5-18As Jesus gave up His life on the cross, He quashed the need for sacrifice while fulfilling the need for it. His life lived perfectly was not in vain. He fulfilled the requirement that has allowed us humans, God’s creation to approach Him.

5 Therefore, when Christ came into the world, he said:

“Sacrifice and offering you did not desire,
    but a body you prepared for me;
with burnt offerings and sin offerings
    you were not pleased.
Then I said, ‘Here I am—it is written about me in the scroll—
I have come to do your will, my God.’”[a]

First he said, “Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them”—though they were offered in accordance with the law. Then he said, “Here I am, I have come to do your will.” He sets aside the first to establish the second.10 And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

11 Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again, he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. 12 But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, 13 and since that time he waits for his enemies to be made his footstool. 14 For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.

15 The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. First, he says:

16 “This is the covenant I will make with them
after that time, says the Lord.
I will put my laws in their hearts,
and I will write them on their minds.”[b]

17 Then he adds:

“Their sins and lawless acts
    I will remember no more.”[c]

18 And where these have been forgiven, sacrifice for sin is no longer necessary.

There is nothing that we can do, say, or offer that will meet the requirement by God for redemption. As the Bible says in Hebrews, the sacrifices and offerings brought before God under the Old Testament law were met with God’s disapproval. None of these sacrifices could actually pay the debt of sin! Any efforts of our own accord will not meet the expectations or desires of God. We need to humble ourselves under Jesus’ sacrifice.

God has always wanted to have people that can be the example of His plans for the world. People making up the Kingdom of God. People willing to allow God to inscribe His laws on their hearts, minds, and spirits. It is not all about the sins committed, God will remember them no more!

We tend to get so caught up in the redemption and payment of sins. We forget to go beyond the sins to the purpose. God wants us to be a vessel abandoned to His spirit, completely given over to Him to create in us His perfect plan. How often do we ask God to tag along on our mission instead of laying our lives aside for God to live through our lives by His spirit?

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Please take my life today, I surrender completely before you so that You can write your laws into every aspect of my life. May Your Holy Spirit take control and chisel Your ways and plans into my life.

In Jesus’ name, Amen
