Daily Devotional – Death of The Only Son

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Exodus 12:12-16. God was about to hurt Pharaoh where no other plague would. The death of Pharaoh’s son would not only be the final nail in the coffin but was the precursor to His own sacrifice.

“On that same night I will pass through Egypt and strike down every firstborn of both people and animals, and I will bring judgment on all the gods of Egypt. I am the Lord. 13 The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are, and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt.

14 “This is a day you are to commemorate; for the generations to come you shall celebrate it as a festival to the Lord—a lasting ordinance. 15 For seven days you are to eat bread made without yeast. On the first day remove the yeast from your houses, for whoever eats anything with yeast in it from the first day through the seventh must be cut off from Israel. 16 On the first day hold a sacred assembly, and another one on the seventh day. Do no work at all on these days, except to prepare food for everyone to eat; that is all you may do.”

Protected by the blood

The first Passover festival took place as part of the great exodus from Egypt. God was about to set the example and requirement for the salvation of His people and the generations to come. God knew as He took the life of Pharaoh’s son. That day, Jesus, the firstborn of all humanity, and God’s only begotten son died too.

The blood of the lamb did not protect Pharaoh and the many other Egyptians who lost the children and possessions.

We are protected by the blood of pureness. A lamb although young and somewhat innocent was not sufficient to be the final payment. Jesus, the son of God and was the only worthy sacrifice to pay for sins. Although the greatest sign of love is to lay down our lives for another, only the pure and spotless blood of Jesus is sufficient to allow God to pass over all who have painted this blood over their hearts.

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, God, that You used the exodus from Egypt to demonstrate Your plan and love for us. You painted the picture of how Jesus would pay for the sins of the world. I am grateful today and I sit here, that the blood of Jesus covers my heart, mind, and soul.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
