Daily Devotional -Day 5 of Christmas

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from John 1:1-13. The one who created the universe humbled Himself to be born as the baby in the manger. Jesus laid aside His power and glory, taking on a lowly stable and manger for His grand entrance.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome[a] it.

There was a man sent from God whose name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.

The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.”

Born, not of human decision, but of God

Although Jesus, the son of God had dwelt on earth from the beginning, He was not recognized by those who saw Him. Have you ever wondered why people never acknowledged Jesus as the Messiah?

Perhaps it was because they never truly knew God. Not what God looked like, but His character. As Jesus walked on earth performing miracles as a testament to the Father, very few saw Him for who He was. Remember that this is after all the prophecies pointing to Him.

Perhaps the pre-conceived ideas of the Israelites during that time clouded their judgment. They were looking for an immediate respite from Rome and Caeser, God had a bigger picture in mind. God wanted to save the Israelites His people, but all the generations and people that He had created!

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, Jesus, that You came to earth laying aside all of Your heavenly pleasures. You gave it all up, even though very few acknowledged Your presence. Thank you that You are here right now in this place. Lead and guide me for Your glory!

In Jesus Name,

Amen
