Daily Devotional – Day 4 of Christmas

Daily devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Luke 2:16-20. The shepherds found the special gift that evening. That silent night with only the barn animals around, the shepherds, the lowest class citizens of that day, gazed upon the King!

“So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.”

The shepherds are envied, meeting the King that silent night.

Following the instructions from the angels, the shepherds found Jesus. The shepherds saw with their own eyes what the angels had said. They got to bow on their bended knee before the babe that was born the Messiah.

Not able to contain themselves and the good news, the shepherds went into Bethlehem and the rural areas. They told anyone who would listen about the baby that they had seen, and their encounter with the angels.

Do we spread the good news of Jesus’ birth and sacrifice with much vigor these days? Living in a time where most people have heard about Jesus, I wonder if they have heard the good news. Let us speak of the good news this season!

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, Jesus, that You came as the bearer of good news. God, our creator had not forgotten about us! Help me by Your Holy Spirit to spread Your good news as the shepherds did.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
