Daily Devotional – Day 10 of Christmas

Daily devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Matthew 2:9-23. There will always be people that look to stamp their own way on this earth. They will not allow anyone to steal their limelight.

“After Herod died, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt 20 and said, “Get up, take the child and his mother and go to the land of Israel, for those who were trying to take the child’s life are dead.”

21 So he got up, took the child and his mother and went to the land of Israel. 22 But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning in Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. Having been warned in a dream, he withdrew to the district of Galilee, 23 and he went and lived in a town called Nazareth. So was fulfilled what was said through the prophets, that he would be called a Nazarene.”

Herod died, but the saving grace of Jesus continues

Herod’s jealousy and pride stood in the way of him playing a more meaningful role. God had used him as a pawn piece to position Mary and Joseph. While we plan and work towards goals and dreams, it is ultimately the dream giver that is pulling the strings.

Herod played an important role in fulfilling the prophecy. He could have played a greater role in the Kingdom of God if he understood his true position in the circle of life!

How well do you understand the position that you take in the circle of life? Do you think that you and your purposes are greater and more meaningful than the dreams and visions of others? We live in a world of finite resources, and if that is all that we will draw upon, there will be a limit to your abilities. Lay your ambitions at the feet of Jesus and have Him take the burden and workload.

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, Jesus, that You are the center of it all. As the son of God, You were before time and will be after all time. Help me to release my grip and let You work Your miracles!

In Jesus Name,

Amen
