Daily Devotional – Coming Together in Christ

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from 1 Corinthians 1:10-17. It is very clear to see when looking around that we live in a world of discord. People are trying to get one over others and with no remorse taking care of themselves only.

I appeal to you, brothers and sisters,[a] in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought. 11 My brothers and sisters, some from Chloe’s household have informed me that there are quarrels among you. 12 What I mean is this: One of you says, “I follow Paul”; another, “I follow Apollos”; another, “I follow Cephas[b]”; still another, “I follow Christ.”

13 Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized in the name of Paul? 14 I thank God that I did not baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius, 15 so no one can say that you were baptized in my name. 16 (Yes, I also baptized the household of Stephanas; beyond that, I don’t remember if I baptized anyone else.) 17 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel—not with wisdom and eloquence, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.”

The church is able to stand out from the world.

Living and loving each other is the greatest testimony to a life changed by the blood of Jesus. It is human nature to work for ourselves and strive with selfish behavior. It is the nature of those impacted by the Holy Spirit to think of and love others.

I join with Paul to appeal to everyone to come together as one body, as one bride for Jesus. As we come together to create a church unified, our unity will offer the world a different perspective.

The best way to come together is to focus on a central issue. The central issue of the church and the bride is Jesus, our savior, redeemer, and bridegroom. Let us continue to focus our attention, minds, and spirits on Jesus today and each day ahead.

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Your church is Your physical body presence on earth. As a part of Your body, I want to ensure that I am best representing You and doing Your work. Use me as the hands and feet of the church.

In Jesus Name,
