Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Isaiah 9: 6 -7. Isaiah spoke this prophecy to Israel as encouragement and a reminder to God’s plan. God has been planning from the beginning, and His purposes were going to come to fulfillment no matter.
For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7 Of the greatness of his government and peace
there will be no end.
He will reign on David’s throne
and over his kingdom,
establishing and upholding it
with justice and righteousness
from that time on and forever.
The zeal of the Lord Almighty
will accomplish this.
God’s plan from the beginning was that He would pay the price and redeem His creation. God shared His plan with His people through Isaiah and God wants to remind you that He is still working His story for His glory.
Jesus came to restore His creation to Himself. The reason for the advent was the cross. Jesus came to die, for the salvation of you and me.
Jesus – God with us, God among us! Not only was Jesus the physical form of God’s spirit on earth, but was His action to draw us nearer. With Jesus’ sacrifice, God would be able to draw His children towards Himself. Isaiah is part of the advent because of his words of encouragement and prophecy.
You are part of the advent because God came to abide with you!
Let’s Pray
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you, God, that you speak to us! You have provided direction and hope for our future through your words of prophecy. I’m looking to you expectantly for guidance and leadership to my family and I over the new year. Speak to me, for I am listening.
In Jesus name
Amen
