Daily Devotional – Be Grateful and Thankful

daily devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from 2 Colossians 6-15. LivingBetter50 is kicking off our Daily Devotional’s again and what a perfect time. As we celebrate Thanksgiving this week, we encourage you to be grateful and thankful to our Father and Lord.

So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, 7 rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.

8 See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces[a] of this world rather than on Christ.

9 For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, 10 and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority. 11 In him you were also circumcised with a circumcision not performed by human hands. Your whole self ruled by the flesh[b] was put off when you were circumcised by[c] Christ, 12 having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through your faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead.

13 When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you[d] alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, 14 having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. 15 And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.

Thankful for the covering of Jesus’ blood

The death and sacrifice by Jesus on the cross over 2,000 years ago has paved the way for our righteousness. With His death we are able to stand in the presence of the Almighty. Covered by His blood, we can stand confidently because we are redeemed through His sacrifice.

Being thankful requires an introspective view of our lives. As we consider where we are and where we have come from, it is so easy to be thankful. Our salvation is something that is not possible through our best efforts. Salvation is something that has been freely granted to us.

As I consider where I could be without the intervention of Jesus’ blood and salvation, I can not but cry out in thankfulness. I am thankful that our God has accepted the perfect sacrifice and payment of Jesus on my behalf!

Let’s Pray

Dear Father,

I am thankful that you gave up Jesus so that I could be redeemed and saved. You have given me more than I could have ever asked for. Take joy today as I surrender my life to You in gratitude and thankfulness. Thank you for all that You have given me.
