Daily Devotional – You Can Not Hide

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Psalm 139:7-12. God is everywhere! As the Lord of all the universe, and who stands outside of time, God is not only everywhere at this very moment, but He is everywhere at every stage of time!

“Where can I go from your Spirit?
    Where can I flee from your presence?
⁸ If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
    if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
⁹ If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
    if I settle on the far side of the sea,
¹⁰ even there your hand will guide me,
    your right hand will hold me fast.
¹¹ If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me
    and the light become night around me,”
¹² even the darkness will not be dark to you;
    the night will shine like the day,
    for darkness is as light to you.”

We can not hide from God!

Adam and Eve thought that they would hide from God when they heard Him calling for them. Noticing that they were naked and becoming aware of their sin, they rushed to hide among the bushes. They were not aware that God their creator had better than x-ray vision!

I find that we still often try to hide from God or the consequences of our sins. Most sins impact the lives of those around us, and it is understandable that we would want to avoid the pain and those that we caused harm to. God on the other hand sees everything, and so since we can not hide the sin or from God, we need to become better at facing the sin and consequences.

Next time that you face temptation, remind yourself of this, God is right there in spirit. He is not hovering, but He is present and watching over you. You can not hide from Him in darkness, depths, or heights. God is everywhere that we could ever find ourselves.

Dear Heavenly Father, 

Thank you, Father, that You are ever-present. I can be assured that You are seeing all that I have experienced and reach out toward me with compassion and love. Continue to lead me each and every day Father.
