Daily Devotional – 3rd Day of Christ-mas

Daily devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Luke 2:8-15. The shepherds were out on the pastures and hills. Doing the essential work to protect and keep the sheep fed and safe, they were the blue collared worker of those days.

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,

fall scents for your home

14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”

Join the angels in celebrating Jesus!

Shepherds were alienated and pushed out of the hustle and bustle of the towns. Not worthy of the invitation to most human events, they received an invitation from the Lord of lords to celebrate His Son’s birth on earth.

As the shepherds huddled up in the winter air, they were primarily focused on staying warm and protecting themselves and the sheep of someone else. Amazed by the invitation, they left everything and head off abandoning life’s concerns to see the miracle.

The King of all has been born to redeem and save us all. Let us consider how the shepherds threw off the concerns of this world to see and worship Jesus. Today marvel at the wonder of Christmas and the gift that is Jesus!

Let’s Pray

Dear Father,

You celebrated the birth of Your Son. As Your plan started to take shape, You celebrated the reconciliation of Your creation to Yourself. Thank you for sending Jesus to earth and I join You in celebrating again this year!

In Your Name,

Amen
