As I drink my morning coffee, I chuckle as I recall my teen years.
How many remember the fad in the 60’s of putting Vaseline on your eyelashes? We thought it would condition the lashes and make them shine! So of course I felt I had better try it.
To my disappointment, we did not have any on the shelf! But not to give up, I kept looking…and found what I thought was a good substitute…”Vicks!” Yes, Vicks. It had the same petroleum base, “I think this will work” I told myself.
I quickly lathered it all over my lashes wanted to have the full effect. But within moments, my eyes began to burn. It was too late. As I tried to rub it off, it seemed to work it into my eyes even more, “Oh, my goodness”!
Family and friends saw my weeping for no apparent reason…unless foolishness can be counted as one.
What seems right to our mind is not always correct! I think I went around with red eyes for at least a week until it wore off! Weeping may endure for the night, but joy comes in the morning…or in my case, a week!
Not only did I weep, but everything was blurr-ry from the fumes! I am reminded this morning, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God”! Oh, I do not want my vision distorted concerning the things of God. I want a pure heart so I can see clearly…as He does! He reminds me many times as I pray over a situation, “Come up higher and see from My point of view.”
The fumes of life from unwise decisions can cloud our vision! Have you as I did made a wrong decision that brought many tears? Oh, I love the forgiving power of the cross. I so love it that Jesus not only paid the price for my sins but for my foolish agreements that have brought pain in my life!
Ephesians 1:7 declares, “in whom (Jesus Christ) we have the redemption through his blood, the remission of the trespasses, according to the riches of His grace…” The word “remission” as the Greek states it means: “to be released from bondage or imprisonment.” Wow, the remission or forgiveness brings release to us and sets us free! His grace provided it, just because He loves us! Why can this happen? Because we have redemption through His blood! Redemption means: “a releasing effected by payment of ransom.” His life or blood was payment for us, even our foolish decisions that blurred our vision!
I love verse eight from the Amplified translation, still talking about His rich grace, “which He lavished upon us in every kind of wisdom and understanding (practical insight and prudence)”… Ohhhh, I should have partaken of His wisdom and understanding instead of lavishing Vicks! Notice it says, “every kind” and includes “practical insight”! I love that God cares about everything in our lives and has provided His wisdom to help us!
I want you to know, I learn quickly. I have not applied Vicks to my lashes again. I choose to see clearly and tap into His abundant wisdom in all I do! Lavishing wisdom on you too…
