Do Your Prayers Open Gates?

Did you know that when Peter was in prison, being prepared to be killed, (Acts 12) the believers met in a widow’s home and prayed the prison gates open? “And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together praying,” (verse 12.) Note it was not the house of John’s father, but his mother. And according to scholars she was a widow. God will establish the borders, boundaries or territory of the widow, Proverbs 15:25. The borders of the prison needed to be opened, and the widow of that territory had legal right to open them.

The Lord taught me this years ago that when I would travel into other countries, to have the widows pray and open the gates ahead of time. It makes such a difference!

The prisons gates were opened by an angel and Peter was freed in verse 7. “And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon [him], and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.”

Then in verse 10 the city gates were opened, “When they were past the first and the second ward, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city; which opened to them of his own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and forthwith the angel departed from him.”

Psalms 24:7 “Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.” We can welcome the King of Glory to come into a city, region or even a prison!

Even the iron gate opened, a gate made strong to keep the uninvited out…,but John’s mother sent out the invitation for the Peter!

Jesus told the disciples in Matthew 18:18 that what was bound (or as the translation renders it, “considered unlawful”) must be what is bound in Heaven. And what is loosed, (or released) should be because it is lawful in Heaven. Part of opening the gates or closing them is by agreement. The believers saw that it was unlawful according to righteousness sake to allow Peter to be killed. They came in one accord as they prayed, making their agreement even stronger. It became a key that unlocked the gate.

What gates do you need opened? He has given us the keys! What does Heaven want to establish? Where does the King of Glory need access?

The widow at the well in John chapter 4 became an open gate for the Lord to reach Samaria. According to research, the well was at the city’s gate. She left her valuable water pot to run into the city and tell them about Jesus so that they too would open up to Him. Then He stayed with them for days establishing the Kingdom! He later said that a prophet was not honored in His own city, but recognized He was honored there! When she agreed with Heaven and it opened the gates to the city and the hearts of the people!

If it is allowed in Heaven, invite it where you are! We have the keys that open the gates…one is called prayer!

Prayerfully in Him,
CarolMarie
