The Betty Vanity

This makeover is so me. I. love. it!!!!

It’s old school glamour, with a hint of rock and roll bling.

I could just see an Hollywood glamour girl primping at it.

Honestly though, I really didn’t give this a huge transformation. It was so underwhelming, it didn’t even warrant a before pic, because it would look almost like the same thing!

It was white, beat up, and toting glossy paint.

I refinished her in ASCP Old White, and added just a hint of distressing.

My plan was to replace the knobs and handles with something elegant and girly.

After measuring the posts on the pulls, I realized that wasn’t going to be easy. The pulls were 2 1/2″, and most are 3″. Sometimes you can find a 2 3/4″, but they are limited in style.

I searched Etsy, Anthropologie, ebay….nothing. And forget about finding 6 of them! I could have redrilled new holes, but I’m never completely satisfied with that look.

So I got out my metal polish, (Noxon 7) and buffed these up.

You can really see the difference in the before and after.

The handles all had black paint in the centers.

I decided to try adding some black crystals in the middle where the paint was.

Since they are just the peel and stick kind from the craft store, I also added a dab of Krazy Glue to help them adhere permanently.

Wow.

I love happy discoveries!

These look so much better than anything I was looking for!

The aged brass and black bling are a great contrast together.

I scored some great small pieces in the last couple weeks too, and have been waiting to stage them all together with the vanity.

A sweet little marble based mirror. The little flowers on the swivel holder won me over.

And I loved this oval box letter holder.

I also found these:

Single S&P shakers- but they are large, and would be so pretty holding powders.

Why not? Everything is more special when it’s in a pretty container, right?

The vanity table top mirror was also a recent find.

The engraved julep cup is actually ours- it was added just to so I could have some pretty flowers in the picture. 🙂

There wasn’t a mirror that came with this vanity, so I improvised.

I’m guessing it probably had one of those large round ones at one time.

My best guess is that this is from the 1930’s.

It really needs a mirror though, so I stole this one from our family room. It mimics the simple lines of the vanity quite well, so it will go with it.

I can always find something else for us!

This will be going down to the shop when I have some room for it in my space.
