Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Proverbs 28:12-18. When our secrets and hidden things are brought to the forefront, we are set free. While there could be short-term pain and disappointment experienced by all involved, confession brings peace and mercy.
“When the righteous triumph, there is great elation;
but when the wicked rise to power, people go into hiding.
13 Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper,
but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy.
14 Blessed is the one who always trembles before God,
but whoever hardens their heart falls into trouble.
15 Like a roaring lion or a charging bear
is a wicked ruler over a helpless people.
16 A tyrannical ruler practices extortion,
but one who hates ill-gotten gain will enjoy a long reign.
17 Anyone tormented by the guilt of murder
will seek refuge in the grave;
let no one hold them back.
18 The one whose walk is blameless is kept safe,
but the one whose ways are perverse will fall into the pit.”[b]
Living a transparent life leads to confession
Sin has this uncanny ability to ensnare us. While we may avoid its consequences for a short time, the noose grows tighter and tighter. The burden gets heavier and heavier, with the fruit being fear, anguish, and oppression.
Living a blameless and loving life, while may leave us exposed to some pain, will keep us free. By replacing the burdens of this life and world for the yoke of Jesus makes our life peaceful and restful.
Let us then be bold in our submission and reverence for the Almighty God. Do not let our hearts lead us into trouble and sin, the consequences are too grave.
Let’s Pray
Dear Father,
In Jesus Name,
Amen
