It might not be the first thing that crosses your mind as you bid to build up your business or career. Trust us when we say that fashion can make all the difference when it comes to those big deals. Women over 50 looking to close their next business deal should consider their appearance and presentation.
No, contrary to popular belief it’s not about always dressing up in a suit (although like we will soon show, it might sometimes come down to that). There are plenty of other considerations as you bid to use fashion to make a statement with your business, and today’s post will identify some of these ways.
Assess your environment
As we have already mentioned, it’s not always about donning a three-piece suit and hoping for the best.
Sometimes, this approach will well and truly backfire. Sometimes, this is overkill – and this is more prevalent than ever before in the modern-day business world.
As we all know, office attire has evolved significantly over the years. Wearing casual clothing is more “normal” than ever, and there are only a select few industries that go against this advice. Sure, you would always rather overdress than go the other way, but if you know for a fact that a company is traditionally informal then it can play into their hands to match this approach.
The classic footwear advice
We hate clichés over here, but one that we will always agree with is that a person can always be judged by their shoes. Sure, you may have heard this advice time and time again, but if you are looking at someone with a sparkling three-piece suit, and a scruffy pair of shoes, it speaks volumes about them.
As such, arm yourself with some smart Oxford shoes and let your footwear do the talking for your big deal.
Be wary about jewelry
There’s nothing wrong with turning to accessories and if you were to consult most styles, this is an approach that they would preach.
By the same token, you can’t do too much with your jewelry. Firstly, you can’t look like a Christmas tree, and secondly, you can’t be like a musical instrument as all of the precious metals bang against each other when you lift each body part. It’s annoying – and won’t make the right impression.
The same rule applies to cologne or perfume
Following on from the previous point, you must be careful not to fall into the same trap when it comes to cologne or perfume. Once again, it’s there to make a difference, and a subtle spray here and there is going to do wonders for your overall appeal to someone sitting on the opposite side of the table.
However, note the S-word here. This is something that is crucially important and if you shower yourself in the substance, you’ll just reek of desperation. There is a fine line with too little and too much and if anything, you should always be swaying towards the former.
