Without a dream for your future, it’s impossible to create a dream life.
I recently read The Art of Non-Conformity by Chris Gillebeau. The book resonated with me, but I especially liked this line:
“The most important part of unconventional life planning is to be clear on what you want.”
Do you know what you really want for your life? If you’re not already crystal clear about what you want, take a few minutes now to think about your dreams and write them down.
Who do you want to be?
What do you want to do?
Where do you want to go?
How do you want to live?
What do you want to experience?
What do you want to have?
After you’ve identified your goals, put a date to them and create a goal poster or dream board to help you stay focused on what you want. Cutting pictures and words out of magazines and pasting them on a piece of paper may take you back to grade school, but it works!
I once heard a statistic that 80 percent of what you put on your goal poster comes to be. Now that stat could very well be made up. (A lot of statistics are totally fabricated!) But I will tell it has proven true in my life. In fact, earlier this year I glued a photo of Italy on my goal poster. This summer, I’m taking my first trip to the land of pastas y vino.
Gillebeau’s book focuses on creating a life that bucks the status quo. Living an unconventional life can come with huge blessings: the power to control your time, to choose who you will spend time with, live where you want, and to give yourself a raise whenever you want.
But unconventional living also comes with some major responsibilities, the main one being that YOU are in charge of YOU. No one is going to tell you what to do; you have to decide for yourself what you want… and when you want it.
Before the end of the week, make some time to get crystal clear about what you want. After all, before you can live the life you imagine, you have to IMAGINE it!
