Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Mark 6: 7-13. We have been sent. When Jesus sent out His disciples, He sent them with nothing, not even a change of clothes or bag to carry anything. He did not give them a certificate of excellence that qualified them to be sent. Jesus sent them out with the experience of being with Him and seeing His miracles.
“Then Jesus went around teaching from village to village. 7 Calling the Twelve to him, he began to send them out two by two and gave them authority over impure spirits.
8 These were his instructions: “Take nothing for the journey except a staff—no bread, no bag, no money in your belts. 9 Wear sandals but not an extra shirt. 10 Whenever you enter a house, stay there until you leave that town. 11 And if any place will not welcome you or listen to you, leave that place and shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them.”
12 They went out and preached that people should repent. 13 They drove out many demons and anointed many sick people with oil and healed them.”
Have you ever sat in a service trembling at the thought that God was going to send you to the ends of the earth to preach His gospel? There are the thoughts running through your head about how unqualified you are. Then the thoughts about what you would have to leave behind of suburbia and all of its comforts.
How comfortable have we become with a Sunday Christianity? We are compared to domesticated and caged animals in the zoo. The untrained disciples went out and drove out demons and performed great miracles without half the preparation that most Christians of today’s church have.
Each Christian has the Holy Spirit to lead, guide, and work through them. If we will only be willing to step out and face the unknown, God will be able to do so much. God can receive the glory if we, His body will but only move.
Let’s Pray
Dear Heavenly Father,
Forgive me for my preconceived and fearful ideas. I make myself available to you as a member of Your body. For it is not my battle, it is Yours, and it is for Your glory. Use me as You need to!
In Jesus’ name,
Amen
