Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Matthew 7:21-23. How often have you complained to yourself saying, “words are cheap”? We all know that anyone can say anything. What counts at the end is the one that makes it happen!
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’
Are you a “Wannabe?”
I spent my childhood playing sports at a competitive level. You could easily differentiate between the wannabes and the truly good players. The wannabes would show up with all the best gadgets and tricks. They certainly dressed to impress, while the truly good players came to compete.
So often people talk themselves up and elevate their position in your eyes. The experienced ones have learned to just let them speak, and ignore the bragging. Usually, the ones talking the loudest are the least productive ones.
In the same way, many will claim their faith in words, rather than demonstrate their faith in actions. Let us follow the latter and be doers of our faith, sharing love, joy, and peace with all that we see every day!
Amen
