Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Luke 2:8-15. Have you ever dropped something, while in the middle of it? When something important comes up, we all wouldn’t think twice before heading out to see to the important issue.
“And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”
15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”
God has come to live among us
The presence of God is precious. The birth of Jesus was precious. God took on a physical body to be with His creation and people. This was a worthwhile occasion to drop everything and run toward it to see.
Jesus was not only God with us, but He was the promised Messiah. Messiah means “the promised savior”. This only added to the vigor of the shepherds as they ran toward Jesus. Like today, those shepherds with the rest of Israel were crying out for redemption and saving.
What is God calling you closer to see? Unlike the shepherds, we have the Holy Spirit, meaning that we have the presence of God here, right now. It is important enough for you to stop and look at what God wants to show you!
Let’s Pray
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you, Jesus, that You came to live among us. You, the promised savior were born and the world would soon be changed forever. I come to You today, seeking You and Your presence! Start with me, and change my world!
In Jesus Name,
Amen
