Who Should Read – Called To Stay

The last thing I want to do is waste your time. Life is too short and eternity too long to waste an afternoon on a book that might not benefit you one hundred times more than you invest in it.

So before we go further, I want to pinpoint two types of people who must read this book. If one of the paragraphs describes you, then I feel comfortable saying that this book has tremendous value for you.

The Frustrated: You go to church but are extremely frustrated. The pastor and congregation don’t seem to emphasize living a life of full-throttle devotion to Jesus. The church may appear to love God, but when it comes to loving the lost, making disciples, teaching others to follow Jesus, and just longing for God, the body is severely lacking. You care for the people in your church but

Extraordinary people for God are simply ordinary people who are willing to be used.

feel as though they’re stuck in mediocrity. Church is a part of their lives, but Jesus is merely a part of their theology. You feel awkward bringing this up in conversation. You’re filled with a sense of helplessness. Church no longer feels like a place of worship. You feel you might be better off in another church or perhaps no church at all.

The Sieged: You’ve left the church. You feel free and strong in your relationship with Christ, but have come under the fire of a Christian siege. Your family and friends worry about you and question your salvation, making it harder than ever to return. They don’t understand your desire to follow Jesus and fully commit yourself to him. You’re more accepted among the non-religious crowd than the religious crowd—just like Jesus. You wonder whether or not church has lost its relevance.

If you’re the Frustrated or the Sieged, then you are the person we need at the front lines. Because I know you. I am you. I know your passion for Jesus. I know your desire to glorify him with your life. You have the potential to, through the power of Christ, affect more lives for the Savior than you ever thought possible.

That said, it takes an all-out, cross-carrying, fully committed follower of Jesus to ignite this change.

And few of these followers remain in the body of Christ.

So here’s my question. Is Jesus stirring you to infiltrate his church with passionate commitment?
