Our skin is the largest organ in the human body. In addition to its role in beauty, it also serves a more important function. Our skin protects us from the harmful environmental factors, such as:

  • ultraviolet light from the sun;
  • micro-organisms; and
  • temperature changes.

Most importantly, our skin helps maintain proper hydration, as a protective barrier to water loss. Over time, however, there are the inevitable skin changes that come with age. These can be compounded by sun exposure, diet, smoking and lack of proper hydration. Our genetic makeup predetermines how sensitive we are to these factors.

The truth is, as wondrous as our skin is, it could use some help now and then.

Microdermabrasion — also called particle skin exfoliation — is a safe and gentle way to help: rejuvenate; smooth; and repair your skin. This treatment is ideal for both men and women who want younger-looking skin. If you want an alternative to laser or chemical peels, microdermabrasion would be your likely choice.

Microdermabrasion only requires 20 to 30 minutes of your time, to make your skin healthy and glowing. We suggest five to ten treatments, at two to three week intervals. You should notice results by the fifth session.

The process is straightforward, using a hand piece. We use a controlled stream of microcrystals, to remove the top layer of dead skin cells. This allows the more youthful skin cells to come to the surface. Many skin imperfections and conditions can be improved with this treatment.

Microdermabrasion is both safe and effective. There’s no down time. It’s an excellent treatment for several cosmetic concerns, such as:

  • fine lines;
  • brightening complexions;
  • sun damaged skin;
  • acne scarring;
  • pore size;
  • age spots; and
  • blackheads.

Results depend on the severity of your skin imperfections, and the number of treatments. The treatment is usually performed by a licensed aesthetician with the proper training in microdermabrasion.
