Submitted by American Council on Exercise (ACE):
In numbers released yesterday, a Gallup poll showed December 2014 had the highest rates of flu (4.7%) and colds (11.6%) since Gallup began tracking that information. Even worse news? It’s expected to get worse this month and through February.
Want a way to help avoid the sniffles or worse? Exercise! Even a single workout will boost your immune system immediately and keeping yourself in shape will keep your immune system in shape, too.
Lack of exercise amongst Americans may be partially to blame for the severity of this flu season. Exercise rates in America have gone down since 2012. Studies have repeatedly shown that any type of exercise (easy, moderate, or intense) done regularly boosts the immune systems ability to fight off infectious disease.
