How To Keep Warm In Winter

Personally, there is nothing worse in my opinion than being cold. I love the sunshine and the sun’s naturally warm sun rays! Winter seems almost impossible to keep warm naturally. Heating in our homes and offices causes our skin to dry and our bodies to dehydrate. So, what can we do to naturally keep warm in winter?

As a child I remember my mother bundling me up to the point where I felt like I would roll out the house! I could never understand why I needed so many layers. Now, as an adult, I sometimes feel like I can’t get enough layers!

Without completely restricting your body movement, you can layer with the minimum amount of clothing and still be warm! But, you need the right clothing to layer!

fall scents for your home

I’ve found some personal favorites to share with you!

  • Knitted, Thermal Underwear – This is a must! Forget what it might look like, it will keep you snug as a bug in a rug!
  • Corduroy Clothing – There is something cozy & comfy about corduroys! We found some delightful women’s  and men’s corduroy trousers. And, like all fashion statements, they’re coming back!
  • Down Coats – The duck & or goose feathers hold insulation and feel light to wear, making this the perfect top layer!

Okay, so now you’re clothed warmly, but what about your home? Can you winterize your home?

Absolutely! Here’s some tips for making your home warm naturally!

  • Thermal Blackout Curtains – These days you can get just about any color, any pattern and any design of thermal blackout curtains. These insulate your home by keeping the warm air in and the cold out.
  • Wool Underlay for Rugs – You can purchase wool heating insulation underlay and place it under your rugs/carpets. Since it goes under your rugs, you don’t have to redecorate your whole room/home!
  • Down Duvets & Blankets – Whether you’re sleeping or snuggling on the sofa, a warm, cozy blanket is the best!

Believe it or not, but food and drinks can also keep you warm! Ever wonder why peppermint is a popular flavor for drinks around Christmas time?  Here are some delicious foods & drinks which are more than just tasty delectable treats:

  •  Peppermint Mocha – Whether you’re a Starbucks fan or not, this cafe specialty can be made at home using coffee, dark hot chocolate, pure peppermint essence and whipped cream! Peppermint warms the body and retains the warmth.
  • Chai Tea – Ginger, cinnamon and cloves are just some of the spices in Chai.  Ginger reduces muscle pain & keeps the body naturally warm, cinnamon lowers blood sugar levels, and cloves are both beneficial to pain relief as well as keeping blood sugars  level. Our muscles get aches from the cold,  and our sugar levels are “confused” by our bodies trying to keep ourselves warm. Drink some Chai tea and your body will thank you.
  • Honey – With so many health benefits, natural raw honey has another health benefit… maintaining body temperature!
  • Chili – Chili spices, onions and kidney beans are all super foods to keep our body healthy and warms the soul!
  • Hearty Vegetable Soup –  There’s a reason why soup is a winter food… the hot bowl with all the healthy vegetable ingredients energize and revive the body! Yummy!

While winter is not my favorite season, it is bearable when one is prepared to keep warm. May you have a healthy and warm winter ahead!
