Do You Value the Gift of Life Each Day?

We all feel so much sorrow over the terrible tragedy that took place in Aurora, Colorado, and we send our prayers to those personally affected by it. So many lives were lost, and many more lives will never be the same. It breaks our hearts to think about this violence, and the traumatic aftermath.

At the same time, we need to learn from it. It’s important to understand that none of us are guaranteed tomorrow. We need to be living our lives each day in love and gratitude for the many blessings we’ve been given. We need to let those we care about know how very important they are to us, and we need to let them know often. We need to keep a grateful heart for the gift of each day. We’re so blessed to wake up in the morning and be able to breathe in the freshness of a new day. None of us know when we, or any of our loved ones, will breathe that last breath.

Let’s not get tripped up by the petty things. Small disappointments, or minor arguments, can darken our focus, and begin to lead us down a path of negativity. Everyone’s days contain a mixture of ups and downs. Let’s celebrate the ups, and gently let the downs go. The small downs aren’t worth our attention anyway.

Value the gift of each day you’re given, and make it count. Find ways to touch others with your love and acceptance. Let’s all do our part to begin healing some of the pain we’re feeling right now.

Until next time,
Linda

  1. I think we all go through periods where we cherish each day and, other times, we’re so busy making a living that we don’t make a life. For a while, I’m in that later category and each day is a struggle. I’m blessed though and recognize my blessings; at the same time, I recognize the current struggle.

    1. Hi Sandra,

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts with us. I agree, that sometimes it’s easier to cherish each day than other times. We all have challenges in our lives, and at times we can get caught up in those challenges. Life isn’t always easy. I believe that when we have an awareness of how we’re living our lives, we then have the power to start making little changes if we decide we want to or need to.

My article was just a reminder to all of us, myself included, to not get so caught up in the day-to-day hurdles that the blessings of life get lost in the shuffle. What we focus on, determines our reality. When we focus on the negatives, our lives becomes a darker color. It can become harder to find the joys.

I hope that soon it will become easier for you to make a living, so that you then have enough time and energy to put into making your life be what you want it to be.

      Take good care,

      Linda

  2. Beautifully said Linda 🙂 We must not miss any opportunity to tell our friends and family how much we value them and the relationship with them. I have realized that a human being can survive without luxuries and materialistic objects but cannot live without human affection. It is evident from that fact that a little argument or fight with our spouse/ friend/parent leaves us disturbed and we find it difficult to sleep well that night after the fight. Though it is very difficult to value what we have unless we see it going, we can always make an effort to count our blessings and be thankful for what we have.

  3. Thank you so much for your kind comment, Katie! We have lost several family members suddenly in the last few years, so I have learned not to take anyone for granted. I, also, don’t take for granted that they know how much I love them. I very regularly tell them they are loved. We all need to love and be loved to have a strong sense of connection to others. Without that, life can be very lonely.

The more we make an effort to be aware of our blessings, the easier it becomes. It’s like anything else that we learn. It takes time and practice. Being thankful pays very good dividends in our sense of personal well-being.

I agree with you, it isn’t the “luxuries and the materialist objects” that are so necessary. It’s a gentle touch, a soft voice, an arm around our shoulders, a listening ear, an unexpected phone call or letter. Those are the things that warm our hearts, and let us know that we’re cared about. Those are some of the things that give our lives meaning, and are worthy of our very deep gratitude.

    Thanks again, Katie!

    Linda
