Feast of the Hunter’s Moon 2012-1

We had a glorious day for the Feast of the Hunter’s Moon on Saturday. Everywhere we walked, we heard people talking about “perfect Feast weather” which is cool and breezy.

After the rain on Friday, the forest along the Wabash River was all washed and ready for her visitors.

Fort Quiatenon (pronounced wee-ott-i-non) was the most southern of the French military and trading posts from Canada .

We don’t often think of the French as being part of the history of the Midwest but they were the first Europeans to settle this part of the country and were a presence until the American Revolution.

The Feast is one of the largest historical reenactment festivals in the country. The most recent stats I could find was on Wikipedia which said in 2004 there were approx. 8,000 participants and 60,000 people attending.

We always try to get on one of the earliest shuttle buses to make certain we see the Opening Ceremonies and the Landing of the Voyagers. That makes for a very long day and we arrived home very tired… but it was worth it. 🙂
