El Dorado Royale Resort & Spa and El Dorado Casitas Royale

By Amy Johnson –

From the moment that I toured the El Dorado Royale and El Dorado Casitas Royale back in 2009 during a Karisma Hotels travel agent familiarization trip, I knew that I had found something special in the world of All Inclusive resorts. El Dorado Resorts are premier resorts located in Riviera Maya, Mexico and as part of the Karisma Hotels chain offer their signature “Gourmet Inclusive” concept.

The El Dorado Royale and El Dorado Casitas Royale embody the Gourmet Inclusive experience in many ways besides the obvious. El Dorado Royale and El Dorado Casitas (Casitas is the smaller and even more luxurious resort within the El Dorado Royale resort) are both AAA 4 Diamond rated resorts, and one of Conde Nast Traveler Readers’ Top 100 Hotels in the World. The entire property is adults-only, a must for honeymooners and couples celebrating an anniversary or seeking romantic getaways; a plus for girlfriend getaways and business incentive group travel. Upon arrival, guests are greeted by name with a chilled flute of champagne and cool aromatherapy scented towel to freshen up with.

The El Dorado Royale, is a larger resort, but with its many pools (both quiet and active), beach beds and restaurants, never feels crowded. Throughout the resort are Concierge stations, offering full Concierge service to all guests. Lead-in room categories are Jacuzzi Jr. Suites with a garden view. The grounds are beautifully landscaped with palms, tropical floral and foliage. The same room type is also positioned in areas that offer both ocean view and ocean front locations. Even more romantic, is a swim-up suite with your own personal patio with lounges and direct entrance to the lazy river that leads to a main pool. No need to don your cover up and pack up the tote bag, just walk a few steps out of your suite to your own lounger and pool entrance. All suites have Jacuzzi tubs larger enough for two, canopied beds, hammocks and chairs or loungers on balconies or terraces. Beach beds and lounge chairs are plentiful throughout the many pool and beach areas.

El Dorado Casitas Royale has the most the spectacular suites, or “Casitas” that offer luxury, yet the warm feel of Mexico. Like the Jacuzzi Jr. Suites, Casitas have Jacuzzi tubs in-suite, but are more spacious with soaring ceilings plus an outdoor shower and outdoor bed for the ultimate in immersing yourself in your Mexico vacation. (There’s also a shower and bed in-suite.) Several Casitas suite types are available, one better than the next. Can you imagine yourself indulging in a Swim-Up Infinity Pool Casita Suite? Oh, I think you can, I think you can. Did I mention that there’s also Butler service available at the Casitas? Yes, I thought you might like that. The Casitas are truly designed for romance, but that shouldn’t stop a group of friends looking to get away for some sun and pampering.

Did someone mention pampering? When I think of pampering, the first thought that comes to mind is Spa…ahhh… There are two Spas available for use for all guests staying at either El Dorado Royale or Casitas section. Both lovely, and offering various treatments and services, but I personally love El Dorado’s signature Sky Massage. If you enjoy the sounds, smells and breezes from the sea during massage, this is the place to indulge.

El Dorado resorts are all about indulgences. And, I’ve saved the best for last. As a self-professed foodie, I have to say that dining at El Dorado resort restaurants is what truly sets these resorts apart from other All Inclusive resorts. No reservations are required, but your concierge will be happy to make one if you so desire. Menu items are made to order and served fresh. Several restaurants with various styles of cuisine to choose from prevent the traveler from ever experiencing a redundancy in cuisine during their stay. My favorite, D’Italia Casitas Royale, is like stepping in to an upscale Italian fine dining venue that one finds in a big city like Chicago.

After dining there with some other ladies this past November during my stay for the annual GI Vacation Consultant Diamond Awards conference and banquet, we all declared that we could dine there for multiple nights and not repeat a single course. Beachfront candlelight four course dinners are well worth the surcharge for a special romantic dinner for two. During the day, one can dine seaside, nibble on gourmet bites, enjoy Mexican specialties, grab a burger or pizza, or stay healthy with a smoothie or light cuisine from the health bar. Interested in organic fresh produce? Look no further. The El Dorado Royale has a 70,000 sq. ft. greenhouse on site that produces fresh fruits and veggies served in their restaurants as well as other Karisma Hotels in the area. This is part of the initiative that Karisma Hotels is taking in sustainable tourism, or “going green.”

Interested in a stay at one of the El Dorado Resorts? Consider contacting a GI Vacation Consultant as we are able to offer exclusive complimentary value add-ons such as room upgrades and complimentary or discounted sky massages and beachfront candlelight dinners. Honeymoon and anniversary packages are also available for those that qualify.
