Daily Devotional – Speak The Truth

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from 1 John 3: 16-24. Let us love each other and have the world wonder and marvel at the love that they see in the church. Let our love be more than words, but let our actions do the talking about the great love that we share for each other.

This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. 17 If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? 18 Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.

19 This is how we know that we belong to the truth and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence: 20 If our hearts condemn us, we know that God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything. 21 Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God 22 and receive from him anything we ask, because we keep his commands and do what pleases him. 23 And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us. 24 The one who keeps God’s commands lives in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us.

The seventh command in the law of Moses is “You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.” Exodus 20:16. Many people take this law to mean in a court of law. However, in the same light that Jesus showed us lust is the same as adultery, gossip and speaking ill of someone is false testimony.

John said that we have the truth in our hearts as members of the body of Christ. We should be speaking truth not only to others but about others. Prophesy truth and life over people. They are a new creation and their old ways should be forgiven. Step up as a loving sister in Christ and then follow through with action. Hold others accountable and walk their journey with them. Do not bail on them at the first sight of difficulty. That is the manner in which the world treats each other, not the family of God.

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, God, for bringing me into Your family and church. You have called me to love and care for my brothers and sisters as unto You. Help me to walk the path each day with those around me. I want to speak the truth about who You have made them through the blood of Jesus! May our love for each other speak to Your miracle in our lives and that You came to save us!

In Jesus name
Amen
