Daily Devotional – Remembrance Builds Our Faith

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Genesis 12: 4-9. Remembering the goodness of God will help to build our faith for the things to come. Having altars will help you to think back on the things God has done!

So Abram went, as the Lord had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Harran. He took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, all the possessions they had accumulated and the people they had acquired in Harran, and they set out for the land of Canaan, and they arrived there.

Abram traveled through the land as far as the site of the great tree of Moreh at Shechem. At that time the Canaanites were in the land. The Lord appeared to Abram and said, “To your offspring[c] I will give this land.” So he built an altar there to the Lord, who had appeared to him.

From there he went on toward the hills east of Bethel and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. There he built an altar to the Lord and called on the name of the Lord.

Then Abram set out and continued toward the Negev.

God has done such great things

Today we celebrate Memorial Day. As we get to come together with family members that we haven’t seen in some time, we consider our heroes. Some families gathering will not be complete due to their sacrifice for the greater good. They have all paid the greatest price for all of our freedoms. It is fitting to remember the fallen soldiers and their families today.

As important as it is to have days where we celebrate our freedoms and think about the sacrifices made for it, sometimes we need it to be a little more personal. It might be difficult to get the State or National government to create a holiday celebrating God’s miracles in your life. However, it doesn’t have to stop you!

There are many occurrences in scripture where God’s people built something to help them remember. They built altars to remind them of the works that God has done. Anyone walking past this memorial altar would be reminded of God’s provision and deliverance. As I look forward to the uncertainties of this world, I look back at how God was faithful and strong. I gain strength to tackle the unknown because of the known in the past!

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, God, that You are mighty and have done such great things in my life. Thank You for your ultimate sacrifice on the cross Jesus. You have also done many other great things that I remember today. Build my strength and faith today for Your glory!

In Jesus Name,

Amen
