Daily Devotional – Pray Over Your Decisions

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Joshua 9:3-8. I am guilty of it too, looking back and wondering why I did not seek God and His will before making a decision. The more time I spend in God’s word to us, I have come to see that we need to slow down and not get ahead of ourselves and God.

“However, when the people of Gibeon heard what Joshua had done to Jericho and Ai, they resorted to a ruse: They went as a delegation whose donkeys were loaded[a] with worn-out sacks and old wineskins, cracked and mended. They put worn and patched sandals on their feet and wore old clothes. All the bread of their food supply was dry and moldy. Then they went to Joshua in the camp at Gilgal and said to him and the Israelites, “We have come from a distant country; make a treaty with us.”

The Israelites said to the Hivites, “But perhaps you live near us, so how can we make a treaty with you?”

“We are your servants,” they said to Joshua.

But Joshua asked, “Who are you and where do you come from?”

We make hundreds of decisions each day!

Listen to successful people and you will hear a consistent message. Be very deliberate about the smallest things and actions in your life. They understand that every decision, as inconspicuous as it may seem, is ultimately pushing you towards your destination. You are either getting closer to your goals and desires or further away.

Having said that, I wonder why Christians make decisions so flippantly? Either we are choosing what serves our flesh or what brings glory to God’s Kingdom. If we are serious about God’s Kingdom, we should be as diligent about the tiniest decisions in life as a successful business or sportsperson is.

In our scripture today we have seen how yet again Joshua and the Israelites made a quick emotional decision. Their ignorance caused them to enter into a treaty with someone God had told them not to do this with. Instead of praying and consulting God about this, they allowed their minds to be convinced by what they saw. Let us not be caught like this any longer!

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, Father God, that You are waiting for us to come to You. Forgive me for always making decisions myself and not waiting for You to direct me. Lead me by Your Holy Spirit as I wait on You today!

In Jesus Name,

Amen
