Daily Devotional – Pillar 6 – God is Closer than Any Others

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from John 14:15-21. God called each of us to an intimate relationship with Him. He wants to dwell within your soul via the Holy Spirit so that we are one with God as the Son and Father are.

“If you love me, keep my commands. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be[c] in you. 18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. 19 Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live.

20 On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. 21 Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.”

We are as close as we desire

“To say that God’s sovereignty is limited by man’s freedom is to make man sovereign.” R.C. Sproul

Christianity is based not on our church attendance, tithes, or volunteering status. It is based on our daily lives. Do you experience God on a day to day basis, and see His power flow miraculously? It may not be that God is not involved and working daily within your life, rather we do not acknowledge the workings of God.

Not only does God want a daily in-depth relationship with us, but He has created the church for this experience too. The church is not to be a 1 time a week sit-down. We are called to be a body that is intertwined and joined together as marrow, bone, and flesh are. The church should be as connected horizontally as it is connected vertically with God.

We live in a world we society directs us to achieve personal accolades and success. We live in individual homes and the more successful that we become the more that we withdraw to ourselves. Jesus did not die on the cross so that we could be good. He died on the cross to open a door of intimacy.

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, Jesus, for paying the ransom on the cross. Your sacrifice has fully paid the price of our salvation. Help me by Your Holy Spirit to become even more closely knit to You and Your church.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
