Daily Devotional – Mercy for the Merciful

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Colossians 3:12-17. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. One of my favorite quotes is, “we judge others by what we would do in the same situation.” In the same way, we will experience mercy, when we live a life of mercy.

“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. 16 Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. 17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”

We will experience mercy when we live a life of mercy

It is easy for each of us to expect, no demand, that we are given a second chance. We can justify to ourselves and others why we deserve it. If we are worthy and deserving of mercy, then isn’t each and every person created by God deserving?

Jesus has given us the example of how one of the Kingdom of God would live. His life and words didn’t really leave much to the imagination. He was clear and concise, and to ensure that we didn’t complicated gave us just 2 commands.

Love God, and love each other!

If you have been forgiven and granted mercy by the Lord of all, then let your actions and words demonstrate forgiveness and mercy to those around us.

Let’s Pray

Dear Father,

Thank you for mercifully showing me with Your grace and love. Help me to make my words and actions count for You and Your Kingdom today! Spread Your mercy through me.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
