Daily Devotional – Light or Darkness?

daily edvotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from John 3:17-21. It is quite a damning verdict from John. For mankind loves sin over purity, love, and goodness. The sin of pride is such a hurdle because people would rather not have the light shone upon their sin!

“For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.”

Which do you choose, light or darkness?

Do you consider yourself wicked and evil? In all the works and efforts that you have made through your life to live a morally upright life, how do the words of John rub against your spirit and soul?

fall scents for your home

I once heard that no deed is ever unselfish or self-centered. We feel a sense of goodness and accomplishment in giving to those less fortunate. So in the effort to give, we still received. So, is the motive and deeds of all men and women evil?

The more of the Bible that I read, the more I am convicted of my sin staring at me!

Religions are the attempt of people to control and justify themselves. By doing something we can tell ourselves how good and worthy we are. Worthy enough to fight off the demons that continue t haunt us until we “do the next thing!” The salvation offered by Jesus is the only salvation given in grace! So let the light of Jesus shine on our sins and works so that He can take the burden of them all. He will then return us grace and mercy, with no burdens attached!

Let’s Pray

Dear Jesus,

I confess that You are the light of the world. You came to shine the light of God’s Kingdom so that we could all find our way to His throne. I come before You today thankful and grateful for Your love, mercy, and forgiveness!

In Your Name,

Amen
