Daily Devotional – King of This King

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Acts 12: 1 -5. The King of all kings arrived on the scene. He squashed all egos and presumed His rightful place as King. He assumed it by right not by force. This upset the weak leaders!

It was about this time that King Herod arrested some who belonged to the church, intending to persecute them. He had James, the brother of John, put to death with the sword. When he saw that this met with approval among the Jews, he proceeded to seize Peter also. This happened during the Festival of Unleavened Bread. After arresting him, he put him in prison, handing him over to be guarded by four squads of four soldiers each. Herod intended to bring him out for public trial after the Passover.

So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him.

King Herod wanted the head of Jesus the day that He was born. Herod was not going to let someone other than him rule this region of the Roman empire. Most likely, Herod had been deceptive and authoritative in order to assume his position of authority.

Weak leaders need to impress their authority on you. In the same way that Herod continued to have Christians arrested after Jesus’ ascension. If we have fought hard to obtain something, we tend to fight harder to keep control of it.

This Christmas season, may we surrender to God’s authority and reign. May we trust in His provision and workings, knowing that we only have what we have because of Him! This allows us to release control of what we may assume to be ours!

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, God, for sending Jesus to us as a baby. I acknowledge His kingship and reign overall. I surrender to You and Your Kingdom. Reign this season of Advent!

In Jesus name
Amen
