Daily Devotional – Who is This God

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Exodus 5: 1-9. Pharaoh sits upon his throne, like us on our sofa, asking who is God that I should succumb to Him? Why should I humble myself under God’s will, plans and purpose? I have my own desires and plans!

“Afterward, Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and said, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘Let my people go, so that they may hold a festival to me in the wilderness.’”

Pharaoh said, “Who is the Lord, that I should obey him and let Israel go? I do not know the Lord and I will not let Israel go.”

Then they said, “The God of the Hebrews has met with us. Now let us take a three-day journey into the wilderness to offer sacrifices to the Lord our God, or he may strike us with plagues or with the sword.”

But the king of Egypt said, “Moses and Aaron, why are you taking the people away from their labor? Get back to your work!” Then Pharaoh said, “Look, the people of the land are now numerous, and you are stopping them from working.”

That same day Pharaoh gave this order to the slave drivers and overseers in charge of the people: “You are no longer to supply the people with straw for making bricks; let them go and gather their own straw. But require them to make the same number of bricks as before; don’t reduce the quota. They are lazy; that is why they are crying out, ‘Let us go and sacrifice to our God.’ Make the work harder for the people so that they keep working and pay no attention to lies.”

Starting out this new year, most of us have set out our goals, resolutions, and dreams for the new year. We all know that resolutions are hard to maintain and can accept them not sticking sometimes. After all, our resolutions are the perfect version of ourselves that we may not expect to be a reality.

However, how have you considered God’s purposes and plans in these goals that you have set? Most of us in our sin fight to control our lives and do what we want. We sit back in our comfortable lives and ask the same question that Pharaoh did “Who is the Lord, that I should obey him”

Let us spend some time today and the rest of this week considering God’s plans and purposes for us this coming year. Prayerfully consider the paths that He has laid out before you, asking Him to speak to you.

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Today I acknowledge You as the only true and living God. All authority in heaven and earth belongs to You! I worship You in humility today asking You to reign not only in my life but the lives of all those in my family, community, and country. God speak to me. Give me Your direction and goals for this coming year.

In Jesus name
Amen
