Daily Devotional – God is Encamped Around You

daily devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Psalm 34:1-10. The fear of God stems from an understanding. Understanding the hierarchy of life and knowing where we fall within the pecking order is paramount to wisdom.

“I will extol the Lord at all times;
    his praise will always be on my lips.
I will glory in the Lord;
    let the afflicted hear and rejoice.
Glorify the Lord with me;
    let us exalt his name together.

I sought the Lord, and he answered me;
    he delivered me from all my fears.
Those who look to him are radiant;
    their faces are never covered with shame.
This poor man called, and the Lord heard him;
    he saved him out of all his troubles.
The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him,
    and he delivers them.

Taste and see that the Lord is good;
    blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.
Fear the Lord, you his holy people,
    for those who fear him lack nothing.
10 The lions may grow weak and hungry,
    but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.”

God delivers those that fear and love Him

Have you ever seen a deer try and attack a lion? Imagine driving through the African bush and coming up on a deer that is stalking a sleeping lion. As you watch, you see the deer pounce on the lion.

It sounds absolutely absurd to consider that a deer, the prey would be the attacking party. Deer cautiously observe the distance that they keep from lions, and they are constantly on the lookout for the lion. The deer never rests, day or night, as they are constantly on the lookout for the one that could be stalking them.

Like a deer, when we understand where we find ourselves on the hierarchy, we fear the Lord Almighty. Although He is our Father in heaven, He too is the Almighty Judge and ruler over all the universe. Let us come before our God understanding that He alone is the only true living God, and is worthy of all praise and worship.

Let’s Pray

Dear Father,

While You reign and rule over the heavens and the earth, I consider myself fortunate to have You as my protector. I come before You today weak and broken, knowing that You are strong and the potter of our souls.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
