Daily Devotional – Better Is 1 Day With You

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Psalm 84: 8-12. How lovely is the place that You dwell in! I long to be in that place in order to have a soul that is at peace and rest. Just to be close to You my God, is all my heart desires.

Hear my prayer, Lord God Almighty;

    listen to me, God of Jacob.
Look on our shield,[e] O God;
    look with favor on your anointed one.

fall scents for your home

10 Better is one day in your courts
    than a thousand elsewhere;
I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God
    than dwell in the tents of the wicked.
11 For the Lord God is a sun and shield;
    the Lord bestows favor and honor;
no good thing does he withhold
    from those whose walk is blameless.

12 Lord Almighty,
    blessed is the one who trusts in you.”

Seated at the throne of God

One of the many memes going around at the moment with our isolation and quarantine is about this “Groundhog Day”. We are all experiencing this drawn-out time where each day is a blur. It is blurry not because of the usual business, but because it feels as though the pause button has been pressed.

The scripture is so real and literal to me as I sit here. It is very easy to desire 1 day in God’s presence and courts that this quarantine that we have been saddled with. Other than our restructured schedules and stress from trying to get responsibilities done, I can’t help but think about how we have been given a thousand days in God’s courts.

We have full access to the Holy of Holies where we can sit at the feet of Jesus. I know that although I have more time than usual to do so, I have allowed myself to be distracted. Today, let us all start to be thankful that God has created the time for us to approach Him, and do so!

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

It is so easy God to sing a song in rhythm about being grateful for your presence. Since we typically live such hectic lives, we do not get the chance to take a day in your presence. Forgive me for allowing myself to become distracted, and help me to come into Your presence today.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
