Daily Devotional – Be Anxious For NOTHING

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Philippians 4: 4-9. The word of God gives you and I clear directives that should ease our hearts in times of difficulty. We read in scripture that we are to be anxious for nothing.

 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.”

The question, What if?

What if I lose my job?

What if I become ill?

Or if I can’t pay my rent?

I remember growing up in a home where my father prayed about everything. There were times when we did not have enough money to buy groceries. There were times when we did not have money for gas for our car. I watched my father with great confidence face those tremendous struggles without displaying anxiety and fear. How? It was because he knew where all our provision came from and he believed the written word of God. The word was our road map and it can be your road map too.

First, refuse to be anxious. Just make a simple decision. Then pray. Prayer is a place of full assurance and confidence that God will accomplish His purposes through us as we reach out to Him with passion, with purpose, and with persistence.  Pray with thanksgiving. God expects us to walk with gratitude for what he is doing and has already done in our life. Supplication comes from a place of intrinsic desperation resulting from a broken and contrite heart and God will not reject. The results of such prayers and petitions are promised: peace and a protected heart, that is anxious for nothing.

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

I confess my anxious heart. I ask you to please forgive me for not trusting in you. Help me to learn to turn over all my cares to you through prayer and supplication, knowing and believing that you will take care of me.
