Best Hair Removal Procedures for Women

Hair Removal

Hair growth is one of life’s natural occurrences and hair removal can be problematic for most women. Some of us have unwanted hair in the most embarrassing parts of our body. As we age, the problem does not go away and in some cases, it worsens. So, what are we to do?

What are the best hair removal procedures for women?

Laser Hair Removal

This is possibly the most expensive hair removal procedure but it also the longest lasting and permanent solution. While it seems expensive, consider how much money and time you spend on hair removal and then compare the two. You may feel that laser hair removal is not quite so expensive after comparing it. The benefit of laser hair removal is the permanency of the method, however, one should consider some of the side effects as well before deciding.  The most common side effect is skin irritation and pigmentation changes/discoloration. Some people have experienced scarring, crusting, and blistering. Laser hair removal should not be done around the eye area, limiting where you can remove  unwanted hair. Before making the decision to use laser hair removal, find a doctor who’s board certified in a specialty such as dermatology or cosmetic surgery and has experience with laser hair removal on your skin type.

Waxing

This hair removal process lifts the root by using a sticky substance i.e. wax. New hair does not grow back from the removed follicles for 4-6 weeks. However, we have 1-3 hair growth cycles and you may have a second growth cycle as soon as a week after waxing. Depending on your budget and skill level, one would need to determine if waxing at a salon or a home kit is feasible. Waxing allows you to remove unwanted hair from your face, hands, under arms, legs, feet, bikini area, back, and just about anywhere on your body!

Epilation Hair Removal

Possibly the most painful hair removal process but also one that can be done at home, efficiently and with little to no skill required. Choosing the best epilating device is key and will save you time. Epilation, just like waxing, it removes the root of the hair and hair follicles don’t grow back for 4-6 weeks. This method can also be done on most areas of the body.

Depilatory Creams, Oils & Sprays

Other than shaving, this is the most popular method of hair removal. It is a fairly inexpensive and there are many different products on the market for different body zones. The cons to this method are the unpleasant scent, skin irritation, and hair regrowth is faster than that of waxing, epilating, or threading. Some products stunt hair growth, lighten the hair regrowth, and use more natural or essential oil based ingredients.

Shaving

The most common, affordable, and fastest hair removal method but also the most temporary. Shaven hair grows back in as quickly as one day and leaves behind dark shadows of the hair root. It is the least favorable hair removal on our list, but we also know how time and money constraints affect our choices.

Other hair removal options include threading, sugaring, electrolysis, topical prescription creams, and oral medication. Finding the most suitable hair removal method for you as an individual may take time and depending on the severity of your unwanted hair, you may want to speak with your doctor or dermatologist about the best options for your needs.
