You Are a Beloved Daughter

In my dealings with women, I’ve found that the most common wound we experience is from our fathers. Personally, I have seen how God can stand in the gap. When my earthly father wasn’t present, my heavenly Father was; when my earthly father didn’t understand me, my heavenly Father did; and where my earthly father fell short, my heavenly Father filled the areas of vacancy to overflowing.

At the same time, I believe that God worked through my earthly father to usher me toward a heavenly path. Without my father’s encouragement to pursue modeling, I would have never seen and experienced all that I did—the good, the bad, and the ugly. Without his signature on that very first modeling contract, I couldn’t possibly have the ministry that I do today.

I traversed this precarious world by myself at a young age, and I came across far too many men who didn’t care whose daughter I was. The pain led me to my heavenly Father. I needed his protection, guidance, and healing—all of which he offered me. Since then, the injuries from my broken road have been restored to me a hundredfold as my story has served as a healing balm to others’ shattered hearts.

We look far and wide to fill a void that is impossible for man to fill. But our personal experiences do not define our heavenly Father. God defines himself. And in the reflection of his face, we see who we are and what we are worth.

I want you to redefine who I am by looking into the mirror of my Word. I am your Provider, your Healer, and your Banner. And my banner over you is love (Song of Songs 2:4).

I am the God who birthed you. As a father, I watch over all your comings and goings. I have seen every failure, every hurt, every victory, every valley, and every mountain you’ve traversed, and I know all too well the storms that have torn your precious heart. These are things your earthly father could never fully know. Come to me, my wearied daughter. I am here, waiting for you. You don’t have to do anything but believe for me to be pleased with you.

Before my Son ever performed a miracle, before he ever fed the thousands, before he preached a single sermon, and before he laid down his life, he was baptized. And when he came up out of the water, I spoke a word over him that I speak over you now: “This is my Son, whom I love. With him I am well pleased” (Matthew 3:17).

This is the life I want for you, daughter: to walk as one who knows she is my beloved, with whom I am well pleased, before you’ve done a single thing right.

Look away from the mirror of man; so often, his love is woefully incomplete. Look at me! See your true reflection in the mirror of me.
